Templar's Hall evening concert 7:00: San Diego storytellers,

Come join your neighbors and friends and spend a special day in Poway park at the free Sam Hinton Folk Heritage 2010 Festival.

Listen to the wide variety of acoustic and folk music performed by our great San Diego Based musicians, try some Contra dancing, our open mike stage, hear some fine story tellers and jam with a variety of fiddle players. Bring a picnic, food is available in the park and the Crafters will be there selling their handicrafts.

Sam Hinton passed away on September 10, 2009 at the age of 92. Time has taken Sam down many roads and he has touched us all along the way. Sam has left a musical imprint on our world and the many people with whom he has crossed paths. He has provided us with a road map and a key to doors of enjoyment and satisfaction that no amount of money or power can buy. We've been lucky to have shared his music and many things more with Sam. Words can never capture the gifts we received from him.

We'll be celebrating Sam Hinton at this year's festival.

We'll also be naming the main stage the "Tanya Rose" stage to honor Tanya for the many years she's sung and brought joy to our town as a folk singer. Tanya is an old time musician who has carried on the spirit of the folks we used to hear on our old 78s, in highway juke joints, in churches and hollows, and wherever people continue to get together to pick and sing our music.
Tanya is ill with pancreatic cancer and is living day to day now.
She's been editor of the San Diego Folk Song Society newsletter plus being the organization's treasurer and membership person. She's worked really hard to keep Sam Hinton's dream of a San Diego Folk Song Society alive.
